I love traveling, family, and fostering connections. As a mother of six amazing children, my life is a whirlwind of adventures, each one embraced with enthusiasm. Residing in the beautiful Treasure Valley near Boise, Idaho, with my wonderful husband John, I find my greatest joy (and sorrows sometimes) in my family. My happy place is on a kayak in a mountain lake or atop any mountain with a view, especially when accompanied by family. A close second is in a good book!
My love for books began in childhood. I spent summers biking to the local library, returning home with a basket full of books, and reading under the lilac bushes till dinnertime. My favorite books include classics like “The Count of Monte Cristo,” “Little Women,” and “To Kill a Mockingbird.” I read those at a very enlightening age and each of those books opened my eyes to the moral character of people as well as social prejudices and expectations in society. I love a book that makes me think!
In April 2022, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, it was caught early and treated with surgery and radiation. A dear friend gave me a journal with the quote, “What the Caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Master calls the Butterfly.” I felt a little bit like it was the end of the world, but inspired by that quote, I decided to focus instead on what God wanted me to become through this and explore talents that I had previously buried. That is why there is a small butterfly on my logo- it is a reminder of who gives me wings.
I also recognized my passion for people and connection during this time. When you are in a dark place, connection can turn the light on and help you see you aren’t the only one sitting in a dark plan. This drives my work with Connection is the Cure, a local nonprofit where I have served for three years and am currently one of the Executive Directors. We promote connection as a means to help with mental health and to prevent suicide and addiction in youth and adults. I love helping people feel seen, heard, and valued- through events, heartfelt conversations, or my writing. I also teach early morning Seminary, where I love connecting youth with Christ.
With a degree in Youth Leadership and Recreation Management, I am always seeking ways to maximize joy in life. My mantra, “Enjoy the Journey,” reflects my belief that while fun isn’t the sole purpose of life, it certainly makes the journey more pleasant. I cherish every moment, especially when shared with friends.
I’m delighted that our paths have crossed, even briefly. May our interaction bring a little more joy to your journey. It’s a pleasure to meet you!
